STEP ONE
The first thing to do is start with a simple line drawing, make it light not thick so that any mistake can easily be cleaned without any trace of pencil mark. Imagine and visualize what the car will look like, then try putting it down on your drawing sheet by starting from the car front down to the top, from top to the back and then back to the front(starting point). Make sure the windshield and the tyre space are included in this process. The synopsis is to try and get the shape of the car with the windshield first with a simple line drawing.
STEP TWO
Attach tyres to the tyre space in the front and then back, also with a simple line drawing. Next is to make thick pencil shading at the car base without affecting the tyres. Make it look like a shadow. This is the shortest and simplest part of the drawing.
THIRD STEP
By now you would have been satisfied with your drawing. So freely trace out the faint drawing by making the lines thicker. From this stage, you are 50% sure of a job well done. The main job starts from the next step where you need more concentration on how the face of the car will look like.
FORTH STEP
After you might have figured out what you want the face to look like, then attach the head-light, bonnet and bumper all in a simple line drawing. This is the most difficult part were you are bound to make more mistakes. After getting what you want in the front, then sketch the side mirror, door and others. When you are satisfied with what you have, trace them out by making the lines thicker. You can now say yes I am 90% done. The last stage is just the finishing touches.
FIFTH STEP
The last thing to do here is to show the real shape of the side view by doing some necessary shading. What do I mean when I say were necessary? That is places involving curves, maybe place that shoot out or in. After all these are achieved, then you are good to go.
You can try these steps on your own to see how easy and helpful it will be to you. I have applied it and it worked for me. Don’t forget that you need visualization to back up what you intend drawing, be it a car, dress or what so ever.
It is not a must to finish your drawing at once, you can stop drawing if no idea comes up. Then continue when you have another idea to add to what you have before. Sometimes it takes me days to complete my designs when I lack instant idea.
